Small Bite; Big Threat - eDoctor Workshop on "World Health Day 2014"

Small bites can have bad consequences according to Dr. Malinda De Silva, who delivered a speech on dengue fever to a gathering of
upper-school students of Colombo South International College
(CSI), Kalubowila.

It was organized by the public health conscious www.edoctor.lk team under the patronage of Mr. Nimal De Silva, the principal of Colombo South International College (CSI), commemorating World Health Day, which falls on 7th April, each year.

This year's theme being 'Preventing vector borne diseases', the World Health Organization (WHO) emphasized on controlling the incidence of diseases like dengue, malaria, leishmaniasis and Japanese encephalitis. Keeping with the global theme, edoctor.lk not only delivered these kinds of lectures, but went on to circulate their weekly newsletter under the same banner.

During the lecture, Dr. De Silva emphasized on the public's responsibility in controlling the breeding grounds of the dengue mosquito as medical professionals prefer prevention better than cure. Students attending to the lecture were very interactive and seemed to have updated their knowledge on dengue. Summing-up the event Dr. Harsha Jayakody, founder of eDoctor services said "After all, it's the teenagers becoming adults in the future who can correct their attitudes and fulfill the public responsibility on environment cleanliness,to prevent such vector borne diseases".
